Quick answer

Sharjah does not have one single free zone.

The decision starts by comparing SEDD mainland with authorities serving different profiles. SPC, Shams, SAIF Zone, Hamriyah and SRTI Park do not offer the same activities, facilities or operating reach.

01

SEDD mainland

The route for local activity, commercial premises, municipal permits or contracts requiring a mainland supplier.

02

Service free zones

SPC and Shams may fit publishing, media, professional services, creative work, e-commerce and digital businesses.

03

Specialised free zones

SAIF, Hamriyah and SRTI Park serve air logistics, port and industry, or technology and innovation.

Jurisdictions

Each authority serves a different operating model.

01 Mainland

SEDD

Licences tied to activity, legal form, premises and official approvals in the Sharjah market.

02 Publishing

SPC Free Zone

Digital setup and a broad catalogue for publishing, services, marketing, e-commerce and compatible activities.

03 Creative

Shams

Media, content, design and the creative economy, with options for founders, SMEs and freelancers.

04 Airport

SAIF Zone

Trading, import, export, distribution and warehousing with air connectivity.

05 Port and industry

Hamriyah

Manufacturing, warehouses, industrial land, inventory and larger logistics operations.

06 Innovation

SRTI Park

Technology, engineering, cleantech, R&D, prototyping and specialised spaces.

Free-zone comparison

Three Sharjah free zones and what each is used for.

These three represent clearly different profiles: a flexible option for services and digital business, an airport-linked zone for trade and logistics, and a port and industrial zone for physical operations.

Free zoneMain differencePractical advantageCommon uses
SPC Free Zone Founded around publishing, it now offers a broad catalogue for services, trade, e-commerce and digital activities. Digital setup, modular packages and flexibility to combine compatible activities with coworking or office space. Publishing, marketing, consulting, training, e-commerce, software and professional or creative services.
SAIF Zone An airport-adjacent zone with commercial, service and industrial licences plus offices, warehouses and land. Air, road and sea connectivity, customs and facilities designed for goods, assembly and distribution. Import and export, freight forwarding, distribution, warehousing, assembly, packaging and light manufacturing.
Hamriyah Free Zone A large port and industrial zone with deep-water access, warehouses, plots and utilities for physical operations. Infrastructure for projects that need land, power, sea access, storage and industrial expansion. Manufacturing, food, oil and gas, maritime activity, bulk trade, storage and port logistics.

The table deliberately limits the comparison to three representative options. Shams or SRTI Park may be stronger for media, creative, technology or R&D activity; the exact licence and required facility determine the fit.

Activity and fit

Which option is commonly assessed by activity.

These are initial directions. Exact activity, clients, premises and banking needs can change the recommended authority.

01 Services

Consulting and digital

Compare SPC, Shams and mainland by activity, local access, visas and banking coherence.

02 Creative

Media and production

Review Shams and SPC together with any project-specific permits.

03 Technology

Innovation and R&D

Assess SRTI Park, dual licensing and the technical facility actually required.

04 Trade

Trading and air logistics

Analyse SAIF Zone, warehousing, customs, inventory and distribution channels.

05 Industry

Manufacturing and port

Review Hamriyah, power, safety, environmental permits, staff and facilities.

06 Local

Direct mainland sales

Compare SEDD with a branch or authorised route from a free zone.

Selection criteria

Specialisation matters more than the entry price.

Sharjah may suit digital, creative, technology, logistics or industrial businesses when the authority and facility follow the real operation.

The cheapest package may suit a consultant with no visa and fail a company that needs local trade, employees or a warehouse. Compare inclusions, renewals and subsequent processes.

Compare options
Costs and documents

What belongs in the complete budget.

01

Licence and activities

Registration, legal form, number and compatibility of activities, shareholders and renewal.

02

Premises and immigration

Coworking, office or warehouse, establishment card, e-channel, visa quota and Emirates ID.

03

Documents

Passports, UBO, resolutions, corporate records, attestation, translation and external approvals.

04

Ongoing operations

Bank account, Corporate Tax, VAT, accounting, audit and annual compliance.

Step by step

How to open a Sharjah company step by step.

Choose the authority before buying the package, not after discovering that the activity or facility does not fit.

  1. 01

    Map the operation

Activity, clients, countries, sales channel, team, space and residence requirements.

  2. 02

    Compare SEDD and free zones

Select by reach, activity, premises, recurring cost and banking route.

  3. 03

    Choose legal form

One or more shareholders, branch, liability and governance rules.

  4. 04

    Reserve name and activity

The authority checks availability, compatibility and required approvals.

  5. 05

    Prepare KYC and UBO

Collect passports, structure, source of funds and corporate documentation.

  6. 06

    Contract premises and sign

Coworking, office, warehouse or specialist space according to the licence.

  7. 07

    Pay and receive licence

Corporate documents are issued within the approved scope.

  8. 08

    Activate visas, banking and tax

Complete the later processes, which are not automatic.

Before deciding

Mistakes that make Sharjah formation more expensive.

The range of authorities is valuable only when activity, clients, facilities, renewal and compliance are compared.

01

Saying “Sharjah Free Zone”

There is no single zone: each authority has different activities, facilities and rules.

02

Buying by price

A no-visa fee is not the total cost of an operating company.

03

Ignoring mainland rules

How goods or services are delivered locally depends on the activity.

04

Combining incompatible activities

Different families may require another licence or authority.

05

Confusing visa and tax residence

Immigration residence does not determine personal tax position by itself.

06

Promising guaranteed banking

The bank reviews owners, markets, contracts, funds and substance.

Frequently asked questions

What clients most often ask.

How much does it cost to open a company in Sharjah?

Cost depends on the authority, licence, activities, facility, shareholders and visas. SPC publishes a zero-visa Pay-As-You-Go licence for AED 6,875, while the establishment card, immigration channel, visa, Emirates ID, office and other services are added as required. Rates and offers should be confirmed before engagement.

Can I form a Sharjah company from outside the UAE?

Several free zones allow online incorporation, amendments and renewals. Residence, biometrics, medical testing and some banks may require physical presence. Mainland and regulated activities can have additional requirements.

Can a foreign investor own 100% of a Sharjah company?

Free-zone companies allow 100% foreign ownership. It is also available for many mainland activities, but SEDD must confirm the legal form, activity and approvals for the specific application.

Which is the best free zone in Sharjah?

There is no single best option. SPC can fit services, publishing and e-commerce; Shams media and the creative economy; SAIF Zone trade and airport logistics; Hamriyah industry and port activity; and SRTI Park technology, innovation and R&D. The actual activity should decide.

Can a Sharjah company work with Dubai clients?

It can contract and invoice within the scope of its licence. The sale of goods or physical service delivery in the mainland can require a distributor, branch or local licence depending on the activity. Having Dubai clients does not turn a free-zone licence into a mainland licence.

Can a Sharjah company open a bank account in Dubai?

It may apply. The bank reviews shareholders, residence, activity, clients, countries, source of funds, contracts and substance. The registration authority is only part of the analysis, and the licence does not guarantee approval.

Does a Sharjah free-zone company pay Corporate Tax?

It may be subject to Corporate Tax. The 0% QFZP rate is limited to qualifying income and requires every condition to be met. Non-qualifying income may be taxed at 9%, and VAT, accounting, transfer pricing and audit can also apply.

When is a Sharjah mainland licence appropriate?

When the company needs direct local-market operations, a commercial establishment, an activity tied to premises or contracts that require a mainland supplier. The choice depends on activity, clients and approvals.
