Watch company in Dubai: licence and activities
Watch company in Dubai: licence and activities to manufacture, trade and repair — the DMCC and IFZA routes, with spare parts and accessories included.
Dubai is one of the world’s watch hubs: the trade in luxury watches, their spare parts and their servicing moves a market of its own, and around it light manufacturing is growing — assembly, components, time-measuring mechanisms for industry and the city. The official list covers the sector with two sheets that share a catalogue and split the operation: one for manufacturing and one for trading.
The first two belong to the Watches & Accessories group of the DMCC list, and the IFZA list completes the map with the same trading activity as a Commercial licence and its own repair sheet. This guide reviews what each one covers, what sets them apart — the licence type and the required space — and how the business is taxed.
The four activities: general map
| Code | Activity | Licence type | Space |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3330-00 | Watches & Clocks Manufacturing (صناعة الساعات بأنواعها) | Industrial | Workshop or industrial plot |
| 5139-27 | Watches & Clocks & Spare Parts Trading (تجارة الساعات وقطع غيارها) | Trading | Any type |
| 4773204 (IFZA) | Watches & Clocks & Spare Parts Trading | Commercial | No specific requirement |
| 9529001 (IFZA) | Watches & Clocks Repair | Professional | Retail space |
The two DMCC sheets share the minimum share capital — AED 50,000 — and the absence of territorial restriction; the IFZA ones are non-regulated and their listing publishes no minimum capital. All describe the same product catalogue: the choice depends on the operation — manufacturing, trading or repair — and the same project can combine several in its structure.
The industrial route: manufacturing
Watches & Clocks Manufacturing (3330-00) covers the manufacture of wristwatches and wall clocks, alarm clocks and clockwork mechanisms, plus instrument panel clocks and the equipment for recording and measuring time intervals — parking meters, time clocks, process timers — and all accessories and components. It is an Industrial licence, and its distinguishing requirement is the space: it demands a workshop or industrial plot as the registered address, the standard of any manufacturing activity. The perimeter is broad: from the consumer watch to industrial time-measuring equipment, including the production of components for third parties.
The trading route: dealing
Watches & Clocks & Spare Parts Trading (5139-27) covers the resale of the same catalogue — watches, alarm clocks, mechanisms, panel clocks, time-recording equipment — with spare parts expressly included, a relevant piece in a market where servicing and original parts are part of the business. It is a Trading licence and admits any type of space, from a flexi desk to a warehouse. For the distributor, the importer or the boutique, it is the standard route; the neighbouring precious metals sector — with which the watch business often overlaps — has its own guide in gold trading in Dubai.
The IFZA route: trading and repair
The IFZA list offers the same trading activity — Watches & Clocks & Spare Parts Trading (4773204) — as a Commercial licence, non-regulated and with no specific space requirement or published minimum capital: the light version of the trading route. And it adds a sheet that DMCC does not include in this group: Watches & Clocks Repair (9529001), a Professional licence, also non-regulated, covering the repair and maintenance of the same catalogue — watches, alarm clocks, mechanisms, panel clocks, time-recording equipment — with a retail-space note in the listing. For the servicing workshop, or for the dealer that wants to offer after-sales under its own name, it is the piece that completes the business: sales, spare parts and repair under the same structure.
Taxes on the watch business
The framework is that of an industrial or trading company in the Emirates depending on the route. On VAT, local sales are taxed at 5% and exports can qualify for the 0% rate under the conditions of the regulations — relevant in a business with an international clientele and habitual re-export. VAT registration is mandatory once you exceed AED 375,000 of annual taxable turnover — a threshold reached in watchmaking with just a few transactions. On profits, Corporate Tax at 9% above AED 375,000. The sector’s accounting calls for inventory by serial number and reference, margins per line — new product, spare parts, servicing — and the 5%/0% classification defined before the first invoice.
Steps to set up the company
- Activity and operation: decide whether the model is manufacturing (3330-00), trading (5139-27) or both, and license accordingly.
- Structure and capital: a company with share capital of AED 50,000 — common to the two routes.
- Space per route: a workshop or industrial plot to manufacture; any type of space to trade.
- The file: KYC of the shareholders and a description of the model — suppliers, brands and target markets.
- Visas for the founder and the team.
- VAT and accounting from the start, with serial-number inventory and the 5%/0% classification defined before the first transaction.
Conclusion
The watch sector is covered by four sheets spread across two listings: manufacturing with DMCC’s Industrial licence and its workshop, trading with DMCC’s Trading licence or IFZA’s Commercial one, and repair with IFZA’s Professional licence and its retail space. All share the same catalogue, and the same project can combine sales, spare parts and servicing in its structure. With the route chosen and the right space, the business operates in one of the reference watch hubs, with access to the local market and to regional re-export.
